Armstrong County is just a 30-minute drive north of Pittsburgh and features charming small towns and rural communities shaped by distinguishing features that include the recreational Middle Allegheny River Water Trail and 36 miles of Armstrong Trail which connects to neighboring trail systems. These land and water trails offer many scenic spots throughout the county where residents and visitors can engage in outdoor activities. Armstrong County has a mix of agricultural, recreational, industrial, educational and commercial opportunities. Many of our communities, built to support manufacturing and mining industries, have struggled in recent years. But there are positive signs of revitalization – as seen in Kittanning’s Market Street Revitalization. Many of our townships and boroughs offer property tax abatement incentives for new residential and commercial development. Planning and community development programs facilitate improvements for community livability. Our staff provides assistance to municipalities by finding ways to improve local infrastructure, reduce property blight through the county’s Blight Remediation Program, resolve land use issues, and help with the administration of grant programs such as the Community Development Block Grant Program. We also offer Housing Program assistance such as window and/or roof repair, plumbing upgrades and electrical upgrades for qualifying and eligible residents.
We welcome collaboration at local, county, state and federal levels to build on our county’s strengths as we look to the future.
