Phase II of Kittanning Borough’s downtown revitalization is underway.  Phase II construction began where Phase I ended just west of the McKean Street intersection and will continue through the Water Street intersection.  Improvements include sidewalk replacements with a brick accent, handicapped accessibility improvements, planter boxes, the burying of overhead utilities, decorative historic light poles and new parking meters.  In addition to the revitalization work underway, underground utility facilities are being replaced by Peoples Gas in anticipation of the final paving of Market Street slated to be completed in 2016.

Funding for Phase II includes a Multimodal Transportation grant awarded to Kittanning Borough by the Department of Transportation.  In order to spend the grant funds, matching funds must be provided by the Borough.  Donations are being received to help offset project costs.  Stoney Hollow Nursery has committed to providing and installing the Cleveland Pear Trees for Phase II as they did for Phase I.

Financial contributions on behalf of the project are being accepted by the Community Foundation Serving the Heart of Western Pennsylvania, located at 220 S. Jefferson Street, Kittanning, PA 16201.  Donations made to the project should indicate that they are for the “Market Street Revitalization.”  All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
